Lead Embedded Software Engineer, Mobile

Who we’re looking for
Toyota’s Connected Technologies Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Lead Embedded Software Engineer! This department is responsible for the customer experience, in-vehicle technology, sales & marketing as well as connected revenue. Within In-Vehicle Technology, the primary responsibility of this role is to contribute code, technical coaching & collaboration with other software team members as well as guidance of technical decision-making. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Embedded Software, this individual will support a variety of projects in the multimedia center console space as well as other digital instruments.

What you’ll be doing

Technical coaching for other team members. At this level, a software engineer is considered a senior technical leader, and should spend a good amount of their time serving as a mentor for all other software engineers on the team.
Attending team meetings / activities. All software engineers are expected to attend regular meetings as required by their product team. In addition, at this level, a software engineer is expected to both attend and schedule technical meetings focused on software best practices.
A software engineer at this level should be leading team coordination activities from a technical standpoint and driving the team in finding the best solutions.
Hands-on UX-focused coding. This includes not just writing direct feature code, but also subtasks that are expected, such as writing automated tests.
Code review and documentation tasks. All software engineers are expected to spend time reviewing code from others and writing documentation or proposals to help improve processes.

What you bring

Strong hands-on coding skills with a focus on UI development for native mobile or web applications.
Highly preferred experience in iOS, Android, and/or applicable modern web frameworks. Languages include: Swift, Kotlin, Jetpack, etc.
Strong work experience as a senior individual contributor working on native mobile or web applications.
Prior experience as a technical leader and/or senior engineer in a software team.
Portfolio of high-quality published apps on the iOS App Store, Google Play or the web.
Highly organized with exceptional verbal and written communication skills
