we make apps to help people tackle life's toughest problems. We're recognized pioneers in developing evidence-based digital therapeutics
We're looking for a remote, front-end developer to help maintain and improve our latest app, Laddr. Immediate responsibilities include working with a small team to add new functionality for an upcoming randomized controlled trial of the app.
During the 1 year trial, we'll provide support for Laddr with bug fixes and minor improvements. In our spare time and in subsequent years we'd like to develop multiple apps and services based on the technology we've created.
Laddr is a hybrid app. We use a combination of web technologies with Ionic Capacitor
and some Cordova
plugins. The web, Android
versions share 95% of the same code. OS specific behavior is relegated mostly to plugins that we don't maintain but have modified when needed.
We're looking for someone with extensive experience with HTML5, CSS
A willingness to become proficient in developing Web Components
with Stencil.js, Ionic framework
plugins is required. We'll all be learning Typescript
is welcome, but not required.
An ability to use SQLite and especially IndexedDB
will be useful and appreciated. Competence in Java
will help when debugging the backend.
If you can develop cross-platform plugins for Capacitor/Cordova in Java, Objective-C and/or Swift
that's a big bonus.
You will be expected to manage your own time. We try not to establish arbitrary deadlines, but it does happens and we all do our best to meet them. For the most part you will establish your own deadlines in the context of the larger project schedule.
Your performance will be evaluated based on productivity not the number of hours you spend warming an office chair. As a general rule, though, you should expect to work about 40 hours/week. How you distribute your time will be mostly up to you.
We strive to create a comfortable working environment. Everyone's contribution is respected. When posing constructive criticism, we like to abide by the principle of Chesterton's Fence
– basically, seeking to fully understand the reasons for things before trying to change them. We're all reasonably smart people who make the best decisions we can given the constraints of the moment.
The work we do has enabled huge leaps in the science of behavioral health. We've helped many thousands of people with depression, anxiety, PTSD, chronic pain and substance abuse. We get to solve interesting technical challenges. And we've developed some great applications we love, quirks and all.
Join us and help make the world a better place
... seriously, we really do... I hope ;^)
